We’ve launched!
Sonya and I are so very excited to welcome you to TranscribeRight, our online home-based transcriptionist training course. It is the culmination of six months hard work, and 30 years combined experience running our own businesses before collaborating as a partnership and now creating this course.
As you can see from our website, we have similar stories to tell as to how and why we got here and we share the same beginning. We had both worked extensively in the secretarial and admin field and had many years experience, but being dissatisfied working for someone else and wanting to spend more time with our young families, we explored the possibilities of what was on offer online. This led us to an amazing Australian woman called Kathie Thomas and her business, A Clayton’s Secretary, now VA Directory. This gave both Sonya and myself our first break by applying for and being taken on as subcontractors for a medium-sized transcription company. Little did I know then that the woman I met then doing the administration and editing would become my business partner in ten years or so, and that we would be working together.
We both had our own clients and continued subcontracting, adding to our knowledge of transcription types– the good, the bad and the ugly; learning to edit other typists’ work; liaising with clients; allocating audio files; pricing audio files; invoicing, you name it. The business then went through its second change of ownership, and it seemed the perfect time for Sonya and myself to join forces and work for ourselves. We started Top Team Transcripts, which now has its own small, carefully hand-picked team of first-class transcribers. As we grew, we looked to add to our number but found that, although many people could type and were offering transcription, they lacked the experience necessary for our level of verbatim transcription. This gap led us to where we are right now, with TranscribeRight. We have poured all of our combined, accumulated knowledge and experience into this course. We have gone right back to square one, single voice, clear dictation, right through to Module 3 where there is multi-voice, accents, verbatim and, yes, some shockers to try your skills on. So there you have it! If you are looking to work from home with a varied job (you never know what you will be asked to transcribe) and are a go-getter who wants to work on their own terms and will put in the effort needed to run their own business, here’s your chance. We are hoping to do regular blogs covering topics that come up from feedback, helping to answer questions and mentor new students. Until then, happy typing!
